Why is it that the internet always advertises free credit scores then asks for your credit card info?

23 May

They always ask for your credit card info for the $1 dollar fee that they charge but they’ve already tell that its free, so is there a really a way to view your credit score for free?

even though they say it is free, i have found that nothing is ever free :) seems like each offer is a “come-on” wanting you spend money for your score. there may be a site that offers the info free, but as yet i have not found one :)

The really bad part is that the “free credit report” is run by one of the three major credit reporting companies. They stuck it to my credit card! When I called to cancel, they almost refused to do it. Where is the regulation on them? Try Credit Karma, I’ve had good luck with them.

They ask for your cc number because its “free for the trial membership” but then your card gets charged if you dont cancel.

You can go to annualcreditreport.com once a year and view your credit report from all three different places. But your score cost extra and that score isn’t your fico score which is what lenders go buy

Soooo, if you want to know your fico scores the best way to do that is go to myfico.com and you’ll see one thats says free trial or a low price or something. You will have to enter a cc number but you can cancel it within 7 days (or right after you look at your scores) and you will not be charged anything! Trust me thats what I had to do!

This is a scam. You are entitled to a FREE credit report every year at http://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp. Read the site carefully. There is one place where they offer to give you your credit score for a fee. You don’t need your credit score.
