The only site where you can get your free credit report (all Americans are entitled to one free credit report within a 12-month period from each of the three agencies) is http://credit-info.we.bs/ but no credit scores. Credit scores are available as an add-on feature of the report, for a fee. This central site allows you to request a free credit file disclosure, commonly called a credit report, from each of the nationwide consumer credit reporting companies: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. In the so called 'free credit score' sites, you will have to sign up for their 'other services' to check your score for free. Best of Luck...

Having a good credit score (also known as a FICO score) during an economic downturn gives a person a huge advantage over someone with a poor FICO score. Typically, when the economy turns sour, there are bargains to be had, particularly in the real estate market , that are only available to people with large amounts of cash on hand (not likely), or people with good credit who can borrow and make bargain basement real estate investments. Applying for loans and other unsecured lines of credit credit just makes life a lot easier for you in a bad economy. So what can you do right now to improve your FICO score?

The only way to get your most recent score (and the correct one) is to contact each CRA individually and pay their fees. All three have websites where you can buy your scores.

Or you can use MyFICO to purchase your score from trans-union and Equifax, Experian has since split with FICO so you will have to contact them separately.

Also a person can have a "clean credit report" and still have a low score due to low credit usage or if they are always close to their credit limits even if they pay every month on time. There are many factors involved in credit score calculations.

It does not hurt to know your score. This way you have an idea of whether or not you will wind up paying a higher APR and if you score has increased a lot since you last purchased auto or home insurance, you should contact the insurance company for a lower rate as they use credit scores to base insurance rates.

Hope this helps answer your question.

You can buy a service and then cancel it after one month.

There are more than three scores. Each bureau calculates different scores for different classes of client like mortgages or car lenders or credit card lenders.

You don't really need your scores at all. They're calculated from your credit report, so if that's good then you will have a good score. If you have junk on your report, then your score will stink. Either way, knowing your exact number does you no good. This is a lot of hype put out by the bureaus to replace the revenue lost when they have to show you your report for free.

i don't believe that ANYBODY will give you your score for FREE.
however you can get a FREE copy of your credit report by using the government site annualcreditreport.com
there are only 3 major credit reporting companies out there.
in most states if not all you are entitled to one free credit report from each company each year.
it's suggested that every 4 months you get a free report from just one of those 3 companies. BUT YOU WILL NOT GET A FREE SCORE FROM ANY OF THEM. for the score you'll have to pay a fee.
once you get a report in your hand, read it over carefully and make sure EVERY REPORT IS CORRECT. if any off them say something different than what it should be, contact that reporting service and find out what needs to be done to correct that particular report. even if the first one is correct does not mean that the other two are also correct.
ive been getting these reports every year for at least the last ten years from each company. there is actually a toll free Number that you can call for that annualcreditreport.com. i'll see if i can locate it and get back to you as soon as possible. i find that method works better for me than going on-line.
good luck to ya.

that number is 1-877-322-8228

The credit reports are free from www.annualcreditreport.com without fine print but unfortunately you have to pay for the scores. You can get an estimate from www.creditkarma.com but that's not official. It is simply estimated but at least it's free.

You can see what other people who got a Walmart card had for scores, at http://www.whogavemecredit.com Search by name (walmart) and it pulls up approved and denied submissions....also shows things like their APR and limit.

Your score however is just one attribute that credit card companies look at when considering extending a line of credit to you. Other factors are obviously your income or ability to repay the obligation, and also what's in your credit file itself. It's not all about the score...

Usually 620 is the threashold for a new credit "rank". I would wait a while longer and stay current on your other stuff to beef up your score. Also the higher your score the less you pay in interest for most lenders.

Remember the key to good credit is Time since delinquency, Lenght of time having open credit, (older cc's are better than new ones) and the most most neglected key is ratio of credit used vs credit available.

A person is better to have (only for credit reporting purposes don't get me wrong debt isn't good) 1000 in debt with 5000 available vs a person with only 100 in debt with 250 available.

Improving Your Score
Credit scores aren't static numbers. Because they are calculated based on your current credit report, they change every time your credit report changes. While this change may be very slight, it can also be much more dramatic. Here are some things some financial advisers say to do to try to improve your score:
Review your credit report and correct any errors you find. Getting rid of inaccurate (and bad) information can sometimes improve your score dramatically.
Advice used to be given to close old and unused credit card accounts in order to reduce your “potential” available credit (which could change your debt ratio after you’ve been approved for a loan). Now, however, the ratio of your debt to your credit limit is more critical, so closing old accounts only raises that ratio – which you don’t want to do. Some people have moved debt from several credit cards to one card and then closed the old accounts. Since creditors look at the debt-to-credit limit ratio this can have a bad affect on your credit score because you have the same amount of debt but less available credit. So don’t close old credit card accounts just because you’re not using them.
Creditors also now look at the average age of your accounts so, again, keep those old accounts.
Reduce your balances on credit cards to 75% or less of your available credit (25% is preferable).
Pay your bills on time. (This is probably the most important of all!)
Don't let anyone make an inquiry on your credit report unless you absolutely have to. The more inquiries, the lower your score.

Don’t open new credit card accounts just to increase your available credit in the hopes of raising your score.
Also, remember that some improvements -- such as better efforts at making payments on time -- may take time to impact your score. So, time is also a factor.

If you go to the bank for a loan and are turned down because your score is too low, your would-be lender will get a list of reasons for that low score. You can use that list to try to turn your score around. While nothing is guaranteed, since lenders can also use their own scoring methods, you certainly can't hurt your score by taking any of these steps.

The key is to get credit only when you need it (unless you're trying to establish your first credit), and then use it carefully, make your payments on time, and keep your balances low. Remember not to max-out credit cards.

Big differencies between agencies happen when some of them has wrong items in your credit report.
You can use credit repair agency, for example this one - http://freecreditreport.deep-ice.com
They will clean lots of such bad stuff from your credit report - and do it much faster than yourself, so your credit will go up.

Because as you said, all three credit bureaus are different, therefore they score differently. They have there own way of scoring.

If you have a business and you have an "open account" with a vendor, it is not reported to credit agencies. They will report however if you do not pay your bill in the agreed upon fashion.

You can go to www.annualcreditreport.com. You have to turn your cookies on in your computer.

When you go to the site, they will ask you if you want a credit score. They charge for the score. Click no. They will ask a couple of other questions to verify your identity, then they will give you your free credit report.

Ironic that it doesn't even have the word "free" in it, but it is.

www.annualcreditreport.com

The government set it up so you are allowed one free credit report per year. This is the site where you access it. It really is free. But you will have to pay for the FICO score. However, it gives you details about your credit report from 3 agencies.

I have used the "free" ones before, and had to cancel because they were going to charge me every month. annualcreditreport.com is the one that ACTUALLY is free. But again, only once a year.

As soon as it reports it should go away. Send a fax of the negotiation letter over to the 3 major bureaus if it doesn't disappear as you were told.
